Noll's Archives

Exhibit Overview

This exhibit explores Noll's archives. Noll is a graduate of Brooklyn Poly's PhD Program in the 1970s. His archive has been recently donated to NYU Tandon Archives at the Dibner Library by the Noll. Noll worked at the eminent national research laboratory Bell Labs while studying for his PhD during the evening.

His archives will help show the origins of Contemporary Video Telecommunications technology and why Video Telecommunications Technology failed from the 1960s to 1990s. Much of his archival material is dedicated to thinking about and analyzing the market failure of the PicturePhone or VideoPhone. After exploring his archives, we will return to the present day to see that Video Communication enjoys massive success, particularly with the rise of Zoom. We will conclude by returning to NYU Tandon, discovering the recent founding of the NYU Wireless Lab and then briefly explore the next wave of immersive conferencing Technology that will make its way to the consumer market in the form of Augmented and Mixed Reality Devices.
