Conclusion

My goal when I initially started this project was to purely document the lives and experiences of Muslim students and faculty at NYU Tandon. However, as I started to contextualize my narrative, I found myself going down rabbit holes and the entire process of relearning history from a Muslim perspective was highly fascinating to me. Finding out that slaves brought to the Americas were also Muslim was valuable to me because it made me feel more connected to the early history of America. Additionally, my research allowed me to break previous presumptions that I had about the treatment of Muslims following 9/11. The goal of this website is to document the experience of Muslims at Tandon and it does this by diving deep into the biographies of ordinary members of our community who in so many ways are also extraordinary. I hope that this website will serve as a reminder for Muslims that you can aspire to do great things and that people who look like you are where you aspire to be. I also want it to serve as a tool for everyone to learn about Islam’s connection to the pursuit and preservation of knowledge and the impact that Muslims have on our society.
