Walter Hamden
Walter Hampden Dougherty was born in Brooklyn in 1879. When he was 16, he played Shylock in a student production of “The Merchant of Venice”. He graduated from Poly and went to France to study music. He is most known for his Shakespearean roles on Broadway. Most notably, Cyrano, which he played between 1923 and 1936. He also appeared on the cover of Time magazine in March 1929. He passed away in 1955 in Los Angeles, California (Walter Hampden 2023) .
Edward Everett Horton
Edward Everett Horton was born in Brooklyn in 1886. He attended Poly in 1908 for one year until they discontinued their art courses. He had a long career in “film, theater, radio, television, and voice work for animated cartoons”. He passed away in 1970 in Los Angeles, California (Edward Everett Horton 2024).
