We Need a Drama Club
Theater is something that is very close to my heart. Even though I did not witness the Poly Play Workshop firsthand, I can say that I have grown to love this historic club. As I mentioned earlier in this exhibit, I came into Tandon my Freshman year with a passion for theater that has since died down as I approach the end of my Junior year. This research has really relit that spark inside of me that yearns to be a part of a drama club. Tandon still does not currently have a drama club of any sort, and while there are occasionally activities and events related to the other arts, there are absolutely none related to theater. Unless you count the Broadway raffles that the residence hall does once a year. Although, I would argue that it is less focused on the love of theater itself and more so on the appeal of Broadway specifically. It is also worth mentioning that I have spoken to many people here at Tandon about theater, and while maybe they aren’t as crazy about me about theater, I do hear stories of students who used to be on their high schools theater crew, or who acted in a couple shows in high school. While it may have been a passion that they once had, it has very much been forced to die as they have pursued their degrees here. I do think we at Tandon can create something as beautiful as the Poly Play Workshop, but I think it would take a lot of effort and commitment from students. Yes, maybe an Engineer’s play and theatrical man’s bridge won’t stand in the long run, but who’s to say that we aren’t allowed to try?
